How do you get back into your story?

For a week, I was a mile down the road babysitting my grandkids. I might have well been a zillion miles away. My immersion in my WIP was interrupted, and I am having trouble getting back in.

Have you had this problem? How do you deal with it?

I'd love to know. It might help me!

  1. I read through what I've written so far - that's usually enough to get me back into the story.

  2. I agree with Paula. I just sit down and start reading about a chapter or two before my last endpoint. It's the thinking about it that's worse than the actual doing it.

  3. I concur with going back and doing a 'read'.

I usually go back and reread either the first chapter, or about five to ten pages from where I left off and want to start again.

It's tough getting back into the flow sometimes. Good luck! :)
