Favorite book or movie

Favorite book has to be Palomino by Daniele Steele.

The way it starts you would never expect it to end the way it does. I would explain but then it would ruin the book for those who haven't read it. If you haven't read it yet, I suggest you look for it. It's an old book so it may be hard to find.

I only read this book after I watched the movie of it on LIFETIME. And of course the book was MUCH better.

  1. Isn't that funny. Most of the time, the book is way better than the movie. We get so much more out of a book...something so personal as we lend our own interpretations, thoughts, and past experiences to what we read.

  2. Palomino...sounds like a sweeping western saga. Danielle Steel's writing is so grand, with larger than life characters and lots of fortunes at stake. Sounds like a great read.

  3. Deb,

My mother ALWAYS told me to never read the book before watching a movie. She did that when she was younger (Valley of the Dolls)and was so disappointed in the movie.

Which makes sense if you think about it. In a book we get to be in the characters head. It is more personal. Whereas in a movie, it is hard for a producer to get that across.

  4. I haven't read many Danielle Steele books but my impression (from many years ago) is that she has some very good stories/plots but that her characters are somewhat like cardboard cutouts with no real depth to them. Just my two cents worth! Her millions of fans would obviously disagree with me :-)

  5. Ana,

It's not a western saga. Palomino is her horse. Unless you mean a ranch, then yes..lol.

Okay, now you're going to make me tell you some of what happens.

It starts off with her in NY, and her husband wanting a divorce. So to relax and get through this, she goes to live on a ranch in California with a friend.

She meets a man, and one bad thing after another happens to her. And the way she handles what life throws at her is awesome. It's that old saying "when life gives you lemons..." She's an inspiration.

Mabye because I saw the movie first and loved the hero and heroine I had them in my head while reading and fell in love with them more, I don't know. But either way, Danielle Steele can tell a story.

I started THE PROMISE by her one evening and kept reading until 4 AM the following day.

When I get into a book, I'm too nosey to put it down sometimes. I want to know what happens. Thankfully, there haven't been too many that get to me....lol.
